Central SOMA Park Cluster

In the city's bid to redevelopment Central SoMa, a new 1 acre public park is proposed between 4th, 5th, Bryant and Brannan Streets, the site is currently used by the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission as a storage lot. This new park would be surrounded by new high density residential / commercial buildings with ground floor retail spaces spilling into the park.

Since this park is in the cultural district and literally a few blocks from major community anchors like Bessie Carimichael Elementary School, the Gran Oriente, the Senior Center, and Filipino Education Center we have a vision of this park. We have had numerous meetings with the city, the developers, and designers of the park that would bring this area into alignment with the needs of the cultural district.

We believe that this new park is an opportunity to display new public art that document stories of Filipino life in San Francisco — an educational experience for visitors and a space of empowerment for the Filipino community.

The ground floor space should house SOMA Pilipinas businesses, orgs, and production/arts facilities to create a thriving eco-system of people and diverse culture.

The park it self should have facilities for unique play structures, a community garden, opportunities for youth internships, and an amphitheater for the performing arts. We also see this park becoming a future site for our UNDISCOVERED SF: Creative Night Markets.
