Raquel Redondiez awarded Golden State Valkyries ‘Power Forward’ Honoree
SOMA Pilipinas Director, Raquel Redondiez, being honored as a Golden State Valkyries, ‘Power Forward’ Honoree, during Filipino Heritage Night. August 2, 2026.
On Sunday, August 2nd, 2026, the Golden State Valkyries and PG&E, honored SOMA Pilipinas Director, Raquel Redondiez, as a Power Forward Honoree, during halftime of the Golden State Valkyries vs. Toronto Tempo game at Chase Center. The Power Forward initiative aims to celebrate and amplify the vital work being done by community leaders like Redondiez, stating “Redondiez’ dedication, leadership, and impactful contributions within the Bay Area community are truly commendable and serve as an inspiration to us all.”
Before the game started, SOMA Pilipinas community members, along with Your Filipino Professionals Association (YFPA), Filipino American Arts Exposition (FAAE), and the National Federation of Filipino Americans Associations (NaFFAA), gathered at Thrive City to the sounds of DJ Bitesize (2025 DMC USA Open DJ Champion). There was also live art painting in the theme of Filipino Heritage Night, the Valkyries, and women’s empowerment, by Filipina muralist Venazir Martinez, and Pre-Philippine Script Calligraphy by Filipino artist Kristian Kabuay.
Filipina performer Fatima Wright performed the national anthem prior to tip-off, and Filipino American rapper and Bay Area native P-Lo performed at halftime. SOMA Pilipinas street signs could be seen bouncing in the audience throughout the evening.
The Golden State Valkyries continue to be a valued partner for SOMA Pilipinas as the organization continues to celebrate their 10 year anniversary as the city’s Filipino Cultural Heritage District.
