On April 23, SOMA Pilipinas gathered community members at the Dewey Monument in Union Square for Gunitaan ng Pagtutuwid sa Kasaysayan: Site of Reclaiming and Rectifying Herstory, an evening of remembrance, procession, performance, and collective reflection confronting the monument’s colonial legacy and uplifting histories of Filipino resistance often omitted from public memory. Attendees moved together through Union Square in a community action grounded in art, storytelling, and historical reflection. The program featured performances by Kim Requesto, Oscar Peñaranda, The Afro Filipino Project directed by John Calloway, and Kulintang Dialect, with historical grounding by community historian MC Canlas, as part of the San Francisco Arts Commission’s Shaping Legacy Project.
