SOMA Pilipinas is building our next batch of Advisory Groups (AGs)  to provide input and feedback for our initiatives and projects around our core strategies:

● History and Living Legacy

● Public Art & Place-keeping/making

● Cultural Activities & Production

● Policy & Advocacy for Community Stabilization 

From 2022-2025, we were very lucky to have our first batch of AG members who were deeply rooted in our community and in their particular sectors. We are now opening up the application  for those interested in applying to join one of  the AG groups for 2026-2028. Please check out the information below on the AG’s and feel free to reach out with any questions if you might be interested in applying or forward to other community members who you think would be good candidates.   

About Advisory Groups

The Advisory Groups (AG)  are an important part of our governance structure and convene quarterly to hear updates and give guidance and  input  to staff as community stakeholders in the Filipino Cultural Heritage District.  We are looking to recruit 3 AG members from each of the following constituencies: 

Artists and Cultural Arts Institutions focused on Filipino culture

Min Qualifications: Individual Artists, Artist Collectives, Arts Organizations 

Looking for a mix of stakeholders from visual, performing, presenting, and multi-media arts.

Small Businesses + Workers 

Min Qualifications: Filipino business owners, entrepreneurs, and workers in a Filipino serving or SOMA-based business

Looking for a mix of stakeholders from legacy and emerging businesses, home-based, brick-and-mortar, food, retail, hospitality, and other relevant industries

Residents of SOMA & the Tenderloin 

Min Qualifications: Renters, home-owners, unhoused residents of SOMA and the Tenderloin

Looking for a mix of stakeholders from buildings with high concentration of Filipinos, affordable housing, sro’s, and/or recently displaced from SOMA.

Community workers, Service providers, Volunteers, Faith-based

Min Qualifications: Filipino service providers,  volunteers, and/or those active in faith-based groups 

Looking for a mix of stakeholders  serving Filipino language speakers, low-income families, youth, seniors, and marginally-housed/unhoused 

Youth & Transitional Aged Youth 

Min Qualifications: Filipino-identified youth  ages of 14-24  and/or participants in SOMA-based youth activities

Looking for mix of stakeholders especially from schools with high populations of Filipinos such as Balboa, Burton, Galileo, Lowell, Washington, CCSF, SFSU, and USF.

Filipino Older Adults and People with Disability 

Min Qualifications:  Filipino older adults ages 60 and above and people with disabilities

Looking for a mix of stakeholders from different senior programs, senior housing, etc. 

Educators, Administrators and Parents in K-8 School and Students Higher Education

Min Qualifications: Parents/Guardians, Teachers/Social Workers, Administrators, Student support staff

Looking for mix of stakeholders  from schools with high concentration of Filipinos: Bessie, Longfellow, Denman, Galileo, Lowell, Washington, CCSF, SFSU, USF

*Stakeholders include those that reside and work within the geographic boundaries of the cultural district AND community members who come from outside the district boundaries recognizing the impact of displacement of residents and businesses and that the Filipino Cultural Heritage District serves as a cultural hub for San Francisco/Bay Area and beyond.  

Collective Role

  • Giving  input to staff on their constituency’s interests and concerns and ensuring alignment of programs to vision and mission

  • Advising staff based on their expertise/lived experience (not personal or organizational objectives)

  • Guide staff to stay on purpose to achieve SOMA Pilipinas goals

  • Inform how SOMA Pilipinas can better outreach to and engage their constituencies

Individual Responsibilities

  • Attending Advisory Group meetings in-person

  • Learning about the programs of SOMA Pilipinas

  • Contributing skills, knowledge and experience, as appropriate

  • Actively participating  in special events and activities
