As we begin to build the cultural district and populate it with more Filipino businesses, at some point some of these business will bear no resemblance of being “Filipino." They may be yoga studios, design agencies, law firms, hardware stores, ice cream parlors, fashion boutiques, or health clinics.
As entrepreneurs what responsibility do we have to represent our heritage while staying true to the purpose of our businesses? How can we signal that we are part of SOMA Pilipinas w/o waving the flag?

- Kristian Kabuay
A tirelessly advocate in reawakening the indigenous spirit through decolonization and Baybayin. Conscious about the role he plays, Kristian launched his own company around the script specializing custom art, translations, books and apparel. This lead to collaborations with t-shirt, hat and skateboard companies. Kristian is currently working on his 4th book, documentary and online school.
- Charleen Caabay
Chef Charleen started her culinary adventure on the streets of the Bay Area. Setting up a makeshift kitchen wherever she could. In August 2013 she opened Kainbigan Filipino Comfort Food. Kainbigan has been cited twice in Zagat for her savory adobos and for adding to the Filipino landscape in the Bay.

SOMA Pilipinas is SF’s newest cultural district celebrating the contributions of the Filipino community. Our business meet-ups are designed to jump-start a new Filiipino Business Renaissance in SOMA by attracting the best and brightest in all communities to share their stories and develop new partnerships.
Open to all like-minded individuals that support innovation in entrepreneurship, cultural equity, and civic activism in design, food & bev, tech, finance, urban planning, + keeping SF fun and eclectic.
